Where was the sink hole in the lost city filmed?
We also completed an exterior shot of the sinkhole building on a helicopter shot of a real sinkhole in the Cabo Cabron National Park including adding some extra islands from San Lorenzo Bay tying it to where the majority of boat work was shot.
The first was a group of underground tunnels in Scape Park. The filmmakers chose one section of those tunnels named Iguabonita Cave. For the scenes where they were wading through water, they used caves back near Samana, located in an area called Los Haitises National Park.
Salto de Sacoa, Los Haitises National Park
Located in Los Haitises National Park, the Salto de Sacoa waterfall is the beautiful filming location that the production team scouted for the entrance of Kalaman's tomb.
The beach scene where Loretta and Alan are seen at the end of The Lost City — as well as where Alan is shown riding a horse — was filmed in the Samana province region of Las Terrenas.
Las Terrenas
For beach scenes, including the trailer's vision of a bewigged Alan on horseback, the production used this beach in the Samana province on the north coast. Miraculously unspoiled despite the country's growing popularity as a resort destination, it's a vision of Caribbean white sands and clear water.
We also took real world locations like the cliffs and sinkhole of Cabo Cabron and added it to the small islands of San Lorenzo Bay where most of the boat shots were completed. More cutting and pasting of real-world to create the desired film version.
The first three months of the shoot took place at Media Pro Studios in Romania on sets both wet and dry, including a complete underwater cave system with a variety of caverns. This was followed by six weeks of second-unit photography in caves at Hidden Worlds, Cenote Park, in Mexico's Yucatán peninsula.

The film's budget is said to have been $74 million, and he may well have made more money on box office bonuses.
The beach scenes were filmed near the Coson River mouth, a small scenic water stream flowing into Coson Beach. This dazzling beach is situated near Las Terrenas resort town in the remote Samaná Peninsula, on the northern coast of the island.
Is the waterfall in Lost City real?
The waterfall that appears in the film is called Salto de Socoa, which is located in Los Haitises National Park near the country's capital, Santo Domingo. Village scenes in the film were shot in Altos de Chavón near the resort of Casa de Campo, which was built to look like a replica of a 16th century town.
Casa de Campo Resort
If you're looking for a world class resort where you can get both your back and feet massaged AT THE SAME TIME, like Beth after rescuing Alan and Loretta, Casa de Campo is the place to be!

Upon hearing a local singing a folk song, Loretta deduces that the crown is hidden in a cenote in the jungle.
In The Lost City, Sandra Bullock's Loretta Sage cut quite a sympathetic figure. Her husband, John, died years earlier, leaving her broken and frustrated with their academic work involving archaeology and dead languages.

There were a couple of physical sets built for shooting that included a replica of the actual underwater tunnels. The replica tunnels were placed in a water tank and filled with water so the actors could swim, move, and dive as if they were in the actual cave system in Thailand.
Between 8 and 10 July, all 12 boys and their coach were rescued from the cave by an international team. The rescue effort involved as many as 10,000 people, including more than 100 divers, scores of rescue workers, representatives from about 100 governmental agencies, 900 police officers and 2,000 soldiers.

Bullock's $20 million salary for The Lost City of D is a testament to her overall star power. Thanks to roles in movies like The Proposal, Gravity, and The Blind Side, the actress is one of the most recognized names in Hollywood.
Removed from the narrative via a rather unceremonious death, Brad Pitt's character's death in The Lost City is eerily reminiscent of another movie starring the mega-hit actor. Burn After Reading wasn't quite the same level of adventure as The Lost City, but both movies had a similar gag: killing off Brad Pitt.
