Wadi Rum, Jordan
In contrast to their home world, Arrakis is seen as a harsh, dry planet with mountainous rock formations and sandstorms. This location took the Dune production to Wadi Rum, Jordan, a protected desert wilderness in Aqaba, in the Southern part of Jordan.
Arrakis, a fictional desert world, is an important part of the movie because of its spice, the greatest treasure in the Dune universe. The harsh planet is the home of Zendaya's character, a Fremen named Chani Kynes. Filming of the sequel began in July this year in Budapest, Hungary.
Production Wrapped in December 2022
Warner Bros. revealed on Monday, July 18 that production on “Dune: Part Two” was officially underway. The movie was shot in Budapest, Hungary, and Italy. Lead star Timothée Chalamet celebrated production wrapping in December 2022, sharing a first look at the sequel.
The first part of Dune is set on the fictional planet Caladan and was filmed in rural Stadlandet, which is located between the Norwegian Sea and the North Sea.
The beautiful beaches at the peninsula Stadlandet were the perfect location for filming parts of the epic film Dune. In Dune, the planet Caladan is an ocean world, a world we would like to invite you to visit.
Dune Filming Locations- Where was Dune filmed? The film's filming took place primarily in Europe, Saudi Arabia, and North America. The filming of Dune started on March 18, 2019, and wrapped up on July 26, 2019.
The film, which takes place primarily on a desert planet called Arrakis, was shot in four locations: Wadi Rum in Jordan, the desert outside of Abu Dhabi, the northwest coast of Norway, and the soundstages of Origo Studio in Budapest. “Without those four places, there is no Dune,” Vermette says.
The vast sand dunes of Arrakis in “Dune” exist here on Earth… but not all in one location! “Dune” was filmed in the deserts in the United Arab Emirates and Wadi Rum in Jordan — at least for the parts of the film used to the Fremens' home of Arrakis!
As of June 29, 2023, Deadline made it seem like a trilogy of Dune movies was all but confirmed, with the casual statement: “Warner Bros on Thursday released a new trailer for Dune: Part Two, Denis Villeneuve's second pic in a planned three-film saga based on Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel.”
How many Dune movies will there be?
Zendaya's and Florence Pugh's Dune characters are set up for a galactic rivalry. “The thing I envision [is] the adaptation of two books, Dune and Dune Messiah,” Villeneuve said at a press junket in 2021, as reported by Nerdist. “We decided to split the first novel in two, so now we are at three movies.
Dune: Part II has officially begun production, and Warner Bros. has released the locations of where the highly anticipated sequel will be filming. Denis Villeneuve is returning to the director's chair for the follow-up, which will film in Budapest, Abu Dhabi, Jordan, and Italy.
“I wanted at the beginning to do the two parts simultaneously,” Villeneuve said. “For several reasons, it didn't happen, and I agreed to the challenge of making part one and then wait to see if the movie rings enough enthusiasm.
Of course, certain major characters died in the first film, and are not scheduled to appear in Dune: Part Two. These include Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho and Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides. But there could be surprise flashbacks. So don't count them all out just yet.
Although the death of Duncan Idaho in "Dune" means that Jason Momoa won't be returning in "Dune: Part 2," a few cryptic comments by Momoa himself hint that Idaho could possibly return in the rumored third installment of the franchise.
Arrakis, also known as "Dune", and later "Rakis" after the fall of God Emperor Leto Atreides II, is a harsh desert planet located on the far edge of the Old Imperium in the Canopus star system. It later became the Imperium's center under Muad'Dib's empire.
The film, which takes place primarily on a desert planet called Arrakis, was shot in four locations: Wadi Rum in Jordan, the desert outside of Abu Dhabi, the northwest coast of Norway, and the soundstages of Origo Studio in Budapest.
Dune (2021), the epic science fiction film and other recent films such as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) and Disney's Aladdin (2019) were filmed in several locations in Wadi Rum and the surrounding desert. While Aladdin is a fantasy film, the rock arches featured are real.
Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara played host to the stars of 'Dune' while they filmed scenes in Abu Dhabi.
