What Batman movies were filmed in New York?
New York Filming Locations:
The Batman
The movie used London, Glasgow, Liverpool, and Chicago as filming locations for Gotham City. Although filmed in various locations, Matt Reeves modeled Gotham on New York City. A towering skyscraper similar to the Empire State Building looms over Gotham City with an emblazoned sign that reads "Gotham Empire".
Gotham Square
A place reminiscent of Times Square in New York, yet found on the old continent, in England, not far from where the Beatles were once born. The heart of Liverpool, Wellington Square is located just a few meters from the shore in one of the busiest areas of the city.
New York City and Pittsburgh were the primary cities for “The Dark Knight Rises,” according to The Cinemaholic. They filmed the football stadium scene in Pittsburgh, while they filmed the Blackgate Prison scene at Carnegie Mellon University.
Filming took place from May to November 2011 in locations including Jodhpur, London, Nottingham, Glasgow, Los Angeles, New York City, Newark, and Pittsburgh.
What is this? There are some establishing shots filmed at the Wellington's Column and the Steble Fountain on the corner of William Brown Street and Lime Street in Liverpool. It's amazing how thanks to CGI this neo-classic cityscape was transformed into a sort of New York Times Square.
When drafting a 1940s issue of Batman, writer Bill Finger reportedly flipped through a New York City phone book and came across the listing for Gotham Jewelers. He decided to situate Batman in the fictional Gotham, rather than Manhattan, to add to the mystery. (There's even a street in the Bronx named for Bill Finger.)
The Dark Knight Locations
The majority of the film shoots were done in Chicago and its suburbs, but London also managed to grab a substantial chunk of the shooting locations. Many popular spots in London and Chicago were chosen as part of the new, dark sequence of Christopher Nolan's masterpieces.
As well as being filmed on location in Chicago, America, and London, Liverpool and Glasgow in the UK, The Batman was also shot on sets built at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire and in neighbouring county Bedfordshire at Cardington Studios.
Gotham City in Joker was set in 1980s New York City, according to Todd Phillips, "to separate it, quite frankly, from the DC universe". Mark Friedberg, the production designer of this film, said he established the filming location of Gotham Square in Newark as a film set because there was still poverty.
Was The Batman filmed in Chicago and New York?
Chicago is a midwestern city in the United States. It served as a filming location for Gotham City in Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Batman.
The Batman (2022) was filmed in Liverpool and London, England, UK. Filming also took place at Cardington Studios and Warner Bros. Leavesden Studios.
The original Batman film of 1966, like most films of that era, was shot exclusively in California. Some sound stages and studios were used, as well as Metropolitan Airport. A lot of the same sets were used for the TV series, and the movie itself sandwiched the release of season one and season two.
