Principal photography began in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area on April 13, 2012, and wrapped on June 1, 2012. The majority of filming took place in Braddock, and additional filming was in nearby North Braddock, Imperial, Rankin, and Swissvale.

Happiest Season, directed by Clea DuVall and filmed in Pittsburgh last year, is actually partially set in the city, unlike many films shot here, which usually pretend it's New York.
Pittsburgh things in the “Happiest Season” In the opening credits, you can see the Duquesne Incline and Downtown skyline. Harper (Mackenzie Davis) and Abby (Kristen Stewart) hang out in Schenley Park in the opening credits.
Supposedly, the scene takes place in Bergen County, N.J., though Bale couldn't resist testing out his Pittsburgh dialect, tossing off an authentic sounding "Yinz." Across the street, the Village Inn bar is plainly in view.
The feverish-but-satisfying drama “Out of the Furnace” is a fictional account of brothers (Christian Bale, Casey Affleck) living in a Rust Belt Pennsylvania that's dying for jobs.
The last thing the sheriff says before russel takes the final shot is “let me make this right”, which he ultimately does. The final scene after he kills Harlan shows that russel will now have to deal with the internal struggle of his revenge murder for the rest of his days. Just as we see in the godfather.
