Can unexposed film go through TSA?
We recommend that you put undeveloped film and cameras containing undeveloped film in your carry-on bags or take undeveloped film with you to the checkpoint and ask for a hand inspection. For more prohibited items, please go to the 'What Can I Bring?' page.
Most x-ray machines used to screen carry-on bags should not damage undeveloped film under ASA\ISO 800. There are a limited number of screening checkpoints that use x-ray equipment that may damage undeveloped film. These airports will have signage in front of the x-ray stating that the x-ray may damage undeveloped film.
Do disposable cameras get ruined in airport security? Usually not since the ISO of such cameras is not that high. However, those that want to feel safe about their photos on a disposable camera, simply bring it as carry-on and ask for TSA agent to do a manual check on the camera in lieu of going through the x-ray.
To prevent possible fogging of unexposed film during X-ray inspection of luggage at airports, it is recommended that all film and cameras loaded with film are carried as hand luggage and not transported in hold luggage. If facilities are available, then a manual hand search should be requested.
X-ray in airport scanners don't affect film that is already developed – digital photos, slides, and developed pictures aren't affected. But undeveloped film is sensitive to light because they are waiting to be exposed. The X-ray may penetrate and expose the film.
Take your film out of all canisters and wrappers. Place it in a transparent, ziplock bag. Keep your film in a side pocket or other easy-access area of your carry-on for quick removal. Don't keep film in any luggage or baggage that will be checked.
If you are travelling with film on an aircraft you need to be careful. The x-ray scanners used by airports for security can actually expose and damage your unexposed film.

Scanners in airports can easily detect vape kits. Be it disposable or otherwise. Hence, you must check with your airlines and follow all the required regulations.
Yes!
Firstly, not all airports have CT scanners. And traditional x-ray scanners only affect films with an ISO of 800 or upwards. Secondly, you can ask airport security to check your rolls of film by hand. Keep your rolls of film in your hand luggage and carry them through security yourself.
Can 800 ISO film go through airport security?
That means your film will need to go in your carry-on bag. “But that goes through an x-ray machine, too!” you say. For the most part, these machines use a less intense x-ray that is unlikely to damage film. The TSA states that film less than 800 ISO can go through the x-ray machine for carry-ons without a problem.
FUJIFILM INSTANT COLOR FILM instax mini is an ISO 800 credit-card-size integral daylight color film de- signed for use with Fujifilm instax mini cameras. This glossy film yields superb results under both daylight and electronic flash conditions.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has strict guidelines for inspecting digital cameras and other electronic devices. According to their policies, you must remove your camera from your bag and place it in a separate bin for screening. This applies to both carry-on and checked luggage.
I was in Orange County, CA (SNA) and Denver (DEN) and had no issues with a hand check at either airport, including with film in camera. A quick and easy process thankfully!
In these cases, photographers should request hand inspection or pack the film in a lead-lined bag. We conducted a test at the airport by scanning a roll of Portra 400 three times through a traditional X-ray (not the CT scanner). The results were surprising, with minimal visible damage to the film.
Unless you are using high-speed film (over 800), it will be fine in the X-ray machine. The camera will be fine also. NEVER put anything valuable like a camera in your suitcase.
Film that is exposed to light is ruined. Film that hasn't been exposed to light is still usable for photos. (Film inside the cassette is protected from light.) There isn't really much more to it than that.
A standard X-ray machine sees through clothes and skin, but not metal. As a result, airport scanners cannot see through gold, platinum, tungsten, and other metals. Scanners also cannot see objects in body cavities or ones wrapped in aluminum foil. Other items that evade detection by scanners include lead and crystals.
What film ISO/speed is loaded into your QuickSnap One-Time-Use Cameras? For the best results in either daylight or flash photography, Fujicolor 35mm QuickSnap one-time-use cameras are loaded with Fujicolor Superia X-TRA ISO 400 Color Print Film.
- Don't put film in checked luggage.
- Don't load film into your cameras before traveling.
- Keep film in a single ziplock bag, removed from any cardboard boxes, but still in the plastic canisters (35mm) or foil wrapper (120).
- You can ask for a hand-inspection at the security checkpoint.
Will TSA check my vape if I'm under 18?
The TSA has no policy regarding the use of vapes by minors, including people under 21. Therefore, you can bring a vape on a plane regardless of your age. If you're flying with a vape or bringing a vape on an airplane, it should be kept in the carry-on baggage rather than in the check-in luggage.
You can also take elf bars, geek bars and any other type of disposable vape in your carry-on luggage as long as it adheres to the standard hand luggage regulations. It is important to note that these items are only permitted as hand luggage, and should be stored safely in a sealed bag or container.
Electronic smoking devices are allowed only in carry-on baggage. Passengers are required to take effective measures for preventing accidental activation of the heating element of the device when transporting the devices.
If you shoot 400 ISO film as 800, that is a 1 stop underexposure which will require a 1 stop push in development by processing it as an 800 ISO film. If you shoot a roll 1 stop under-exposed and don't push in development, your photos will be under-exposed.
Any type of camera is allowed to be packed in both carry-on baggage and in checked baggage. Your disposable camera should be carefully packed and covered to avoid any damage. Please note that the undeveloped film inside some disposable cameras could be damaged when going through airport security x-ray checks.
